Top Republican says Palin unready

'And he was dismissive of the fact that Mrs Palin, the governor of Alaska, has made few trips abroad.

"You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

Mr Hagel also criticised the McCain campaign for its suggestion that the proximity of Alaska to Russia gave Mrs Palin foreign policy experience.

"That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."'

Immigrant McCain?

An article in today's NY Times writes about the constitutionality of McCain's presidential bid. The question arises out of the meaning of "natural-born Citizen" written into Article II of the Constitution. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in the '36. Can you consider a child born of American citizens on a foreign military installment a "natural-born Citizen"? Personally, I'd be inclined to say yes, but then again, I'm not a constitutional scholar.
